About CATALOG Projects (2012-2013):
CATALOG Projects was an initiative that provided contemporary artists the opportunity to create ephemeral work for institutional, gallery and non-traditional spaces. Though the primary emphasis for the project rested on the idea of the impermanence of the art object, the secondary focus employed photographic documentation as an imperative, narrative component to communicating artistic ideas.
Fire Works
Fire Works
In conjunction with Northern Spark and the Walker Art Center’s Open Field, Catalog Projects presents: Fire Works. For this exhibition and performance, seven Minnesota artists will sculpt one three-dimensional wooden object that will be exhibited in the Cargill Lounge of the Walker Art Center. Once per hour (for seven hours) a single sculpture will be removed from the exhibition and burned in a fire. The exhibition and performance will not be accumulated by the institution but rather liberated by a sacrificial act of burning, providing an opportunity to investigate our cultural tendencies toward acquisition while emphasizing a visceral experience of the present moment.
