Underlying much of my work is the disillusionment with bodily, material
and ideological attachment in the
context of our current capitalist/democratic society.
Objects, people and icons are shown as broken down,
lost, and even frivolous. I'm interested in the relationship
between the decay of the human body and the
Taoist/Buddhist idea of non-attachment to all things including the
body. For me, the role of the artist is to
make art that runs parallel to life while at the same time creating a
"disconnect." Art is an infinite paradox,
simultaneously true and false. Ulitimately I'm drawn to this
hypocritical idea. I want to make work that
echoes life: complicated, alluring, and indefinitely
contradictory.
